IN HER DREAMS SHE IS FREE
She awakes each day to the reality
of living on the edge of sanity –
screaming children, bills past due
a job that is going nowhere.
She’s tired of this mess
that people call her life.
She’d jump off that edge of sanity
and fly, if she could.
Only in her dreams,
she’s free – her children are grown,
the bills have been paid
her job is perfect.
She knows the day will come
when the children aren’t under foot,
she watches them sleep, watches them dream
and, sighing heavily, begins her reality again.
